Robert Allan is an emerging playwright and lives in Sydney. His full length plays, An Ordinary Person (2013) and The Complete Package (2011), were produced by the Sydney Independent Theatre Company (SITCO). SITCO are the newly appointed resident producers at Sydneys iconic Old Fitzroy Theatre. Roberts short plays, Serenity (2011) and Something to do with Toads (2010), were produced by Short & Sweet (Sydney). Robert has a degree in Theatre Studies and Psychology from the University of NSW and has studied play writing at Griffin Theatre and NIDA Open. In terms of ancient history, Robert began to pursue a career in theatre during the late 1970s. He studied acting at the Ensemble Studios (Hayes Gordon) and dance at the Bodenwieser Dance Centre. Throughout the 1980s Robert earned his keep through regular supernumerary work for Opera Australia, his regular gig as a male performer and choreographer for a popular Sydney drag troupe, and teaching aerobics. With the real performing jobs being few and far between, Robert eventually called it quits and, after graduating from UNSW, began a long and rewarding career in statutory child protection.

Ordinary Person, An
An Ordinary Person is about the destructive nature of victimhood. At 35 years old, Louise has gained sufficient spiritual strength to find and confront her birth parents, Aggie and Topher. She wants to hold them to account for what she considers to be her tortured life. In another part of the city, 25 year old Nathan senses his long-time girlfriend, Fiona, is planning to leave. Prompted by the threat of loneliness, Nathan puts down the bong and, spurred on by a relieved Fiona, begins to turn his dream of becoming a landscape gardener into a reality. Louise's arrival fractures Aggie and Topher's tight little existence and sets Topher on a deadly collision course with Nathan. The meeting between these two men, one carrying the burdens of unresolved trauma, the other with a sexuality that can no longer be suppressed, ends in violence and death. Who is the real victim? Who will justice serve? Could an ordinary person, in Nathan's position, lose self-control and form the intent to kill? An Ordinary Person invites its audience to become a social juror and find their own answers to these difficult questions.
