Peephole, The
Synopsis:
The Ambassador Theater brings two of acclaimed Egyptian playwright Alfred Farag's one-acts to the stage in D.C. These suspense tales highlight the author's modernist style, which includes the use of plays-within-a-play and direct interaction with the audience. His 1971 play "The Visitor (Al-Ziyarah)" explores the theme of deception, while "The Peephole (Al-'Ayn al-Sihriyyah)" examines issues in a capitalist society. With their allusions to power and social status, the works give a fascinating glimpse into the culture that inspired the Arab Spring movement.
