Gerry and the Glasshouse

Synopsis:
Gerry and the Glasshouse is a contemporary play about coming to terms with big changes in life - marriage, a parent in care, and returning home to make a decision about selling the old family home and market garden for prospective demolition to make way for a housing estate. Set predominantly in the dilapidated glasshouse which Gerry rebuilds on stage during the performance the play follows Gerry's gradual realisation that childhood, adulthood and parenthood make for unsettling decisions and unexpected values. At times touching, at times humorous, the play also features the relevance of celestial physics, the philosophy of 1970s wrestling, and why growing melons makes for existential fulfilment.

Notes:
the play was developed through a HI~Arts Work in Progress scheme with the Playwrights' Studio Scotland, culminating with a rehearsed reading in eden Court in March 2011.
