Synopsis:
Dorian Curtis, newly arrived mature student at Oxbridge, meets tutor Professor Langton. It transpires that Dorian's late elder brother was a student of Langton's years earlier. In Langton's absence Dorian scans the proofs of his latest book on Napoleon and concludes that the arguments were lifted from one of his brother's essays. He threatens to expose Langton as a plagiarist, which would mean his failing to secure a college mastership, unless he hands over the proofs. Langton reluctantly surrenders, only to discover that Dorian's concern for his brother was a device by which to obtain the proofs and publish in his own name.

Pieces And Bits
Synopsis:
James Brogan, resident in a retirement home, amuses himself with jigsaw puzzles. Niece Margaret and her son Donald visit. Margaret seeks a £10,000 loan to start a millinery business. James agrees to give the money if she wins a race between them. Who will be the first - James to finish his puzzle of Hogarth's "Shrimp Girl" or Margaret to complete an exact replica of the Girl's hat? Later James, about to finish the puzzle, finds he is a piece missing. Searching for it on the floor, he has a seizure and dies. Margaret, wearing the hat, arrives too late. Mrs de Vere, a fellow resident, hoping to ensure Margaret's victory, had hidden the missing piece.
