Chris Balme studied for two years at the Institute for Theatre Studies in Munich. Here he became interested in the area of children's and youth theatre, a field where the West Germans have made important contributions. He has work as a Senior Tutor in German and Drama at the University of Otago. His production of 'What is This Thing Called Love?' has been made into an educational video-tape by the University of Otago's audio-Visual Production Centre. He now lectures in drama in Germany.

What Is This Thing Called Love

Synopsis:
a translation of Grutze´s Was Heisst Hier Liebe? Education in sexual behaviour is vitalised in documentary style by Paul and Paula who achieve the happy ending of a responsible first sexual encounter. Two announcers and a musician play multiple roles. Dialogue and songs feature explicit information about masturbation & social occasions.
