James Beagon is an award-winning playwright and founder of independent production company 'Aulos Productions'. Based in Edinburgh, he continues to produce his own unique blend of new drama, drawing upon both ancient classics and contemporary themes for the stage and screen. Recent Aulos projects include 'First Class' (Winner of 'Best New Writing' & nominated for 'Best Production' at Buxton Fringe 2014), 'A Winter's Oresteia' (Winner of 'Best Acting Ensemble' at Dionysia Festival 2015) and 'Women of the Mourning Fields' (Multiple 4 star reviews and nominated for 'Best Production' at Buxton Fringe 2015). He graduated from the University of Edinburgh with a degree in Ancient and Medieval History. During his studies, he penned many plays with the university theatre societies, including a well-received stage adaptation of Rosemary Sutcliff's novel 'Sword at Sunset'. He was also a co-creator of the Relief Theatre web-series 'Children of Thebes', based on the life of Oedipus in the 1920s. When not writing slightly bombastic bios, he enjoys the odd pint of cider, playing computer games and avoiding hyperactive animals.

        First Class

First Class

First Class
Three lives, three choices, three trains. 1957 is not the easiest of times for Lydia and her new-born child. Jack is finding it just as difficult in 1992 as his teaching career hits rock bottom. For tennis player Rachel in 2012, her life is beginning to crack under long-felt pressures. Seemingly mundane, their respective train journeys to Manchester Piccadilly expose stories of loss, guilt and devotion. As each dwells on the choices that led them down these tracks, it soon becomes clear that their journeys are not as innocuous as they first seem. 'First Class' is a one-act stageplay by James Beagon. It was originally staged and produced by Aulos Productions and Relief Theatre, where it won the award for 'Best New Writing' and was also nominated for 'Best Production' at the Buxton Fringe 2014. From there, the production went onto a successful run at the Edinburgh Fringe 2014. 'First Class' is written to be performed by two female actors and one male actor.
