Tallest Tree in the Forest, The
Synopsis:
Bursting with poetic storytelling and 14 songs, including Ol' Man River, and Happy Days Are Here Again, The Tallest Tree in the Forest combines the talents of award-winning solo-artist Daniel Beaty (Emergence-See!) with acclaimed director, Moises Kaufman (33 Variations, The Laramie Project). Discover the true story of Paul Robeson, hailed as the best-known black man in the world' for his incomparable singing and acting, brought low by accusations of disloyalty to America. Beaty brings his signature wit, grit and piercing lyricism (New York Times) to more than 20 characters, asking the question, how does a man remain an artist when his soul cries out to be an activist?

Through the Night
This is a new solo show written and performed by Daniel Beaty. It tells the story of six interconnected African American males ranging from 10 to 60-one per decade-as they and the people who love and support them venture through the night of events that changes these characters' lives forever. With a blend of Drama, humor, poetry, and music, Beaty inhabits each character through a seamless transformation in his body language, voice and emotional intention that credibly brings each character to life. Beaty says: "My hope for Through the Night is that Black men will feel their stories are being told in a manner that honors and challenges them and that others will have more compassion and understanding of the complexities facing the Black male in America.
