Strides
Synopsis:
This play is the story of an African-American door-to-door salesman who peddles credit on electric kitchen gadgets. When customers and companions resist being indebted to him, he takes big risks to keep them beholden. Costs of the ordeal are great for all involved, with things promising to be never the same. In this tale love, betrayal, and humiliation ravel and unravel; so do courage, fear, self-regard, self-doubt, and disappointment - with determination and hope remaining constant, and redemption a possibility. Set against a backdrop of local civil rights demonstrations in 1963, the play points to the 21st century.
