Critics have called her work "transformative." Beck mosaics language, music, and movement, addressing challenging, topical subjects in uniquely theatrical terms. Number of People, about a Holocaust survivor battling alzheimers, Hartford Stage's 2007 Brand:NeW Festival centerpiece, was directed by Beck for the Piven Theater Workshop's 2010 season; a national tour starring Ed asner is planned for 2010-11 season. In her critically acclaimed production of and Let the Skies Fall, Beck wrote and directed an ideological clash between Mother Teresa, Christopher Hitchens and Madeline Paget. In Beck's latest play, Invasion of a Sovereign Body, a celebrated chef confronts Parkinson's disease as an apparition and the affect of "his" progression on her family over two Thanksgivings. accolades as a director of other playwrights' work include the post-Katrina Drama Because they Have No Words. Ms. Beck recieved the La Weekly award in 2009 for Best Direction and Best Production for Block Nine.
