a native of Cleveland, Ohio, Barbara earned a Ba in Theatre, with a concentration in performance, from Indiana University (Bloomington). after a fifteen year career in fund-development and management for the non-profit sector she found her way back into the Theatre world. She suffered a severe stroke while traveling through Italy and subsequently slogged through years of rehabilitation. She chronicles this experience in her play, Ictus. Originally performed at Cleveland Public Theatre in a staged reading, November 11, 2007 and subsequently produced as part of Cleveland Public Theatre's Big Box Festival of new work February 22 - 24, 2008. She is currently at work on a play about the after effects of the Iraq war on injured U.S. veterans tentatively titled the Homefront.

Synopsis:
a healthy 35 year old woman experiences a severe stroke, or brain attack, while traveling through Italy. In seconds her life is derailed. Paralyzed, unable to speak or swallow, she must find a way to put her life back together as she struggles through rehabilitation. the brain is the center of the self. How do you reawaken when everything that defines you is broken?
