Synopsis:
adaptation of Nikolai Gogol's hilarious but tragic short story of a man's rapid descent into a fantasy world of talking dogs, delusions of grandeur and the Spanish Inquisition. Set in nineteenth century St. Petersburg, Poprishkin, a 'positively reptilian' quill-sharpening clerk, is obsessively and hopelessly infatuated with the Director's daughter.
