Katie Bender is a playwright, performer and recent MFA graduate in playwriting at UT Austin. Her newest play The Houdini Project will be workshopped in the spring of 2016 at Loudmouth Theatre Collective in Minneapolis. Church of the Passionate Cat will be produced by The Orchard Project in Saratoga Springs in June of 2015 and Alice in Wonderland, an immersive adaptation will be produced by ZACH Theatre in Austin. Katies play Still Now was workshopped at The New Harmony Project and at NYTW. The Fault was developed with Kitchen Dog Theatre. Slip River, which she co-created won the Austin Critics Table Award for best comedy of 2013. Nominated to The Kilroys, Katie was a finalist for the inaugural Shakespeares Sister Fellowship and The Jerome. Her screenplay Joint Venture was a semifinalist at the Austin Film Festival in 2012. She is founding member of Underbelly-a theatre collaborative that stages immersive journey plays in forgotten spaces, riffing on American Classics. Check them out at www.underbelly.com.

Fault, The
Synopsis:
The Fault is an American play about wanderlust and trying to shake off an inheritance. Pressed between the redwoods and the Pacific Ocean, three sisters struggle to reconcile the culture of their itinerant family with their disparate hungers and ambitions. Dedicated to being a teenager in Santa Cruz and starting a family of my own, The Fault runs about 90 minutes, has no nudity and plenty of foul language.

Synopsis:
After witnessing the fall of the twin towers, Annie heads to Japan to study Butoh, looking for a dance form that expresses the destruction she cant comprehend. Ten years later, Annie is diagnosed with stage four cancer and returns to Butoh to prepare for her final dance. Still Now confronts us with the accelerated motion of a woman learning and losing her body, accompanied by the doctors, teachers, friends and lovers that become her partners in movement, to ask the question: what can our bodies teach us that our minds cannot fathom?

Nominated for The Kilroys 2015. The Kilroys is a group of playwrights and producers in LA who publish an annual industry survey of excellent new plays by female and trans playwrights. It is a tool for producers committed to ending the systemic underrepresentation of female and trans playwrights in the American theater.
