Roy C. Berkowitz was born and raised on Long Island, New York. He went to Stony Brook University for his undergraduate degree and received his Masters in Rehabilitation Counseling at George Washington University. Since graduating in 1978, he has lived in the Washington, DC area, working mostly at local HIV clinics as a mental health counselor and educator/trainer. He began writing plays at 44 years old, under the direction and guidance of his close and multi-talented friend Paul MacWhorter. He was a member of the Playwrights Forum in Washington, DC for many years under the leadership of Ernie Joselovitz. AUBERGINE DAYS, his first play, was originally performed in 1995 as a one act at the Source Theatre Company's 15th Annual Washington Theatre Festival. In 1997, the full length version was selected to compete in Dayton Playhouse's Futurefest Festival of New Works, and in 1998 it workshopped at Rep Stage in Columbia, Maryland. In 2001, AUBERGINE DAYS was produced off-off Broadway in New York City by The Boomerang Theatre Company (directed by Rachel Wood). The plays that followed were one acts, many of which have won awards and have been performed throughout the country: Killer Blues, Girls Night Out in Boca, After All& and 'Neitzsche' Ate Here, to name a few. In 2012 'Neitzsche' Ate Here was made into a film by MTVarts (directed by Matt Starr) and entered into national and international short film festivals. 'Neitzsche' Ate Here and After All& were published in 2003 and Goin' Under in 2013 by One Act Play Depot.
