Peter Bland was born in Yorkshire in 1932_and emigrated to NZ in 1954. He studied at Victoria University and worked for the NZBC as a talks and documentary producer. He has worked as a freelance actor/writer since 1963. A co-founder of Wellington's Downstage Theatre, he was awarded a Queen Elizabeth II Arts Council Fellowship in 1964. He returned to England in the same year and is now a well-established West End comedy actor and poet. His selected poems MA MAUI were published by London Magazine Editors in 1976 and awarded a Cholmondeley Prize by the British Society of Authors. While in New Zealand, Peter Bland wrote several one act plays for Downstage Theatre and published three collections of poems. (1978)
