Ansell Broderick was born and raised in Chapeltown Leeds, on a culinary diet that ranged from curried goat and rice to baked beans polish sausage and Yorkshire pudding, washed down with Guinness punch or dandelion & burdock. His cultural breadth draws upon Caribbean folk tales at the feet of his parents, the language of the King James Bible, reggae, rap & Charley Chaplin. He's spent time as a musician, street dancer, actor and storyteller before turning his keen observational talent to the role of writer some 20 years ago. With his unique non-compartmental style ansell's writing is immediate and lifts right of the page. He utilizes his multi faceted range to pen pantomimes, Sci-fi, thrillers and plays without words. He also coined the genre term Hip-hopera (plays written totally in verse and underscored by live music) and has written several He can be family friendly or edgy as noted when Jude Kelly The then West Yorkshire Playhouse director said of his commissioned thriller "Who's Boss" "ansell, people are having a hard time separating the precision and polish of your work from the content". From his standpoint in the north of england ansell's is a voice to be heard.
