Brave No World - Community Identity Stand-Up Comedy

Brave No World - Community Identity Stand-Up Comedy
Popular high-school senior John has a secret - he loves books. But he's afraid to tell anyone for fear it'll ruin his "angry-cool" reputation. When his mother remarries, John is suddenly step-sibling with Lexie, an honor student who couldn't be more his opposite. their many differences - from their upbringing and skin color to musical interests and friends - lead each to make flawed assumptions about the other. But when John and Lexie least expect it, they discover the old adage "never judge a book by its cover" still rings true. Mixing powerful storytelling and contemporary music with stand-up comedy "rants" about culture and society inspired by such literary classics as To Kill a Mockingbird, the Invisible Man and Brave New World, this imaginative new work asserts that if you look beneath the surface, you'll see that the world is what you make it. and the time to start creating it is Now

Franklin's Apprentice

Synopsis:
I dare you, lightning, strike! I am not afraid. Conflict, comedy and dazzling special effects highlight this tale of an American hero's struggle to tame heaven's own power-electricity. Long before the Declaration of Independence, Ben Franklin was a scientist obsessed with the mastery of electrical fire in the face of opposition from church and family. When he rescues a wounded boy from a cruel apprenticeship, the boy in turn teaches Franklin the secrets of the giant, and together they confront ignorance with courage and the power of a questioning mind. William, Franklin's conservative son, sides with the local clergy who declare that redirecting lightning is interfering with God's plan. But Franklin, his young apprentice and his daughter, Sally, set out to prove that lightning can be harnessed to protect the people of Philadelphia. Resolve to perform what you ought; perform without fail what you resolve. Blending historical fiction with contemporary resonance, this thrilling play for families culminates on a stormy night with the crack of thunder, a blinding light and an experiment that changed the world!

Jason Invisible

Synopsis:
everything in Jason's world is crazy. He's a loner, he can't concentrate in school, and--hardest of all--his mom recently passed away. Now he's the sole caregiver for his beloved dad, who is trying to cope with mental illness. Sounds heavy, but Jason makes a hero's journey to protect his dad. With the help of three new friends--outspoken Shelby, who becomes his crush; Zen political activist Pete; and Haze, who may be the most messed up of all--Jason finds himself in the midst of his most trying times. Based on National Book Award winner Han Nolan's novel, Crazy, this haunting, humorous, and highly theatrical play humanizes young people dealing with less than perfect families and celebrates the awesome power of friendship.
