Father Monologues, The - Part 1

Synopsis:
Now the home-grown Brighton shows, that boldly arose from the warm ashes of life after having a child, are joined by their most ambitious blossom, "Billy, the Musical". This growing set of plays, described as "An evening with the side of your dad you never knew" is written and performed by Brighton-born Jonathan Brown, (Best Male Performer Nominee Brighton Fringe 2007) and are really going from strength to strength. Written from the perspective of different dads, and all set in Brighton, this bright bouquet is both a celebration of, and a rib at, fathers and the "city" itself. Meet apathetic gambling chav dad Danny, whose wife Fanny, after watching "one Richard and Judy" is both planning a home-birth for their second child, and emotionally blackmailing Danny into visiting a Regression Therapist, so his behaviour during the birth wont be as bizarre as during that of their first.

Last Lunch, The

Synopsis:
It's Sunday lunch, and where the roast should be, there's a tofu wiener casserole instead. Albert, a butcher, is mortified and questions his wife Jean who has put it on the table. Why has she? One of their twins, Mark, a vegan, and his opinionated vegan spiritual-midwife girlfriend Julie, are coming to lunch, and Albert takes it all very personally. Twin sister Maddy, is on her way too, with 16yr old daughter, Hannah, who has an intense personal secret she needs to share. Everyone is converging on Albert's house, including beef-farmer Pete, (father to Hannah's dreamy boyfriend, Andy), abattoir worker Dave, (and his set of large knives), Andy himself, Sam (Albert and Jean's youngest, just back from fighting in Afghanistan, and bearing frightful news) and the spirits of some of the animals that Dave, Pete and Albert have, between them, been instrumental in dispatching. All is set for a monumental clash of beliefs, values, knives,. . . and hearts.

Silent Stream, The

Synopsis:
Beneath Brighton once lay an ancient river, put aside so a prince could build a palace. The Silent Stream is a one-man show telling the true story of how George IV patronised the town, partook of some of the town's women, fathered unwanted children, and engaged in a battle to wrestle the land, on which he wished to build, from the forces of nature. In so doing, he clashes with early environmental activists.

Well, The

Synopsis:
A powerful visceral drama, set in Victorian Brighton, about the world's deepest hand-dug well, a well that stretches down as deep as the Empire State Building is high. With vivid writing, energetic and risk-taking physical theatre, a wonderfully dramatic set and stunning lighting, we've created an evocative and atmospheric world, touching on the archetypal whilst grounded in themes of personal struggle, intimacy and love.
