Global Cooling: the Women Chill
Synopsis:
For these plays, there is no curtain, no footlights, no stage. Just six site-specific, short related plays from Women's Project theater Company written for the lobbies, mezzanines, escalators, bridges, nooks, and crannies of the World Financial Center complex, 220 Vesey Street, that people pass through every day. the plays, grouped under the title Global Cooling: the Women Chill, share one topic: global warming is not so hot. all written, directed, and produced by women, these plays take place in real time and touch on the issues of Global Cooling that affect not only real people but scientists and mother nature. Global Cooling: the Women Chill is the third site-specific theatrical event Women's Project has delivered to ArtsWorld Financial Center and is another installment of 'hit and run theater' where business people, tourists and shoppers traveling through the World Financial Center may walk around, through or in a play without even knowing they have a role in the performance. Part of this experiment from Women's Project's playwright, director and producer lab is to see how real people react as a play happens next to them or around them or even with them

Going to a Place Where You Already Are
Is there a heaven? Joe says no; its all a bunch of hokum. His wife, Roberta, has always claimed to agree. But lately shes beginning to wonder, especially when they find themselves in church a lot, having reached the age when funerals are more frequent than weddings. Their granddaughter, Ellie, doesnt have time in her own busy life to ponder the after-life. But when mortality confronts them, her grandmothers claim to have gone to heaven and back doesnt sound so crazy after all. With thoughtful storytelling and quiet wit, Brunstetter looks at beginnings, endingsand an enigmatic angel.

Oregon Trail, The
Synopsis:
Powerful, heartwarming play about covered wagons, computer keyboards, and coping with life's difficulties. The year is 1997, and 13-year-old Jane Goodrich is a bona fide expert at The Oregon Trail. The undisputed master of her characters' destinies, she knows just when they should embark on their journeys, she knows the best professions to select for her characters, and she knows every trick in the book so her characters avoid dying of dysentery. She's beaten the game over 100 times. Her own life, though? Unfortunately, she can't just control-alt-delete herself whenever she wants to start over. If only life were as seemingly simple as The Oregon Trail. Ten years later, Jane finds herself crashing on her sister's couch, simultaneously looking for a job while binge-watching reality TV shows. The sadness she has felt since her pubescent years has only deepened over time. Rediscovering the game and booting it up in an attempt to reclaim a realm where she can succeed, the play splits into past (Missouri 1848) and present (Oregon 2007). As her characters make the arduous journey west, Jane confronts the harsh realities of both eras. The Oregon Trail is an honest reflection of depression as well as a moving testament to the power human beings have to rise to the challenges we all face.

Short Love At the Ohio
Synopsis:
This is a program of short works by Bekah Brunstetter, Dan Kitrosser, and Justin Swain, all woven together into that big wicker basket we call Love. Some plays are funny, some touching, some far out there, some close in here, but after an evening where you'll encounter the love for Harry Potter, a big gay storytelling frog, two guys taking a road trip, an abortion and a girl on a subway, you'll see that while love is a vast, complicated thing, the best kind of love is quick and cheap.

Tenant, The
Synopsis:
Set in Paris and inspired by the novElla that was famously adapted into a film by Roman Polanski, the Tenant is a thrilling, haunting and grotesquely hilarious investigation into the relationship between who we are and where we live. When Monsieur Trelkovsky rents a room recently vacated by a woman who fell from her window, he soon finds his world changing in bizarre ways. Haunted by images of the previous tenant's apparent suicide and terrorized by his new neighbors, Trelkovsky begins a slow descent into paranoia and delirium. Staged and installed by Woodshed Collective over five building stories in the historic West Park Presbyterian Church parish house, the Tenant features an original script by a team of New York's brightest up-and-coming playwrights - Bekah Brunstetter, Sarah Burgess, Paul Cohen, Dylan Dawson, Steven Levenson, and Tommy Smith. each playwright has written the story of a separate denizen of this Parisian tenement, and collaborated with Woodshed Collective to create a living building.
