Daniel joined the Mercury Theatre, Colchester as Artistic Director in 2013 and has since directed THE HIRED MAN, THE HISTORY BOYS and THE BUTTERFLY LION there. Current projects include the regional premiere of BETTY BLUE EYES (a co-production with West Yorkshire Playhouse, Liverpool Playhouse, and Salisbury Playhouse) and a new production of MACBETH. Previously he was Artistic Director of New Perspectives Theatre Company (2003-2012); Associate Director of the Nuffield Theatre, Southampton (1996-2003); Artistic Director of Oxfordshire Touring Theatre Company (1992-1996); and Community & Education Director of the Haymarket Theatre, Leicester (1988-1992). He has adapted THE BUTTERFLY LION, FARM BOY, FRIEND OR FOE AND THE IRON MAN for stage. Aladdin

Synopsis:
Come with us to Old Peking where Aladdin dreams of marrying the beautiful Princess Jasmine and providing a better life for his mother, Widow Twanky, and brother, Wishee Washee. With the promise of an inheritance to make him as rich as a prince, the wicked magician Abanazar has tricked Aladdin into helping him find a magic lamp hidden in a secret cavern high in the hills. Aladdin soon finds himself trapped with only a battered old lamp for company. It's only when he rubs the scruffy lamp that his adventure really begins! Will Widow Twanky find romance? Will Wishee Washee prove his worth? Will Aladdin finally marry Princess Jasmine? All will be revealed at the Mercury Theatre this Christmas! Aladdin will need the help of all his pals in the audience if he's going to win the princess's heart. So prepare to boo, hiss, cheer and sing! Are you ready? We can't hear you. . .!

Butterfly Lion

Synopsis:
the play tells the tale of an orphaned white lion cub which is sold to a circus owner and shipped off to europe. Young Bertie who rescued the cub vows to see his friend again. Little does he realise the adventurous, romantic, shocking turns his life will take before the momentous day arrives.
