David Burton is an award-winning writer from Queensland, Australia. Lazarus Won't Get Out of Bed was his first professionally produced play in Brisbane. Since then, David wrote April's Fool, which toured nationally in 2012 and was published by Playlab Press. His other works include Boomtown for the Queensland Music Festival (2013) and numerous works for The Grin and Tonic Theatre Troupe. In 2014, David co-wrote Hedonism's Second Album with Claire Christian, premiering at La Boite Theatre Company in August, also published by Playlab Press. In the same year David won the Text Prize for Young Adults and Children's Writing for his memoir How To Be Happy, which will be published in 2015.

April's Fool
In April 2009, two weeks short of his nineteenth birthday, Toowoomba teenager Kristjan Terauds died due to complications from illicit drug use. Using the words of Kristjan's friends and family interviewed over many months, and inspired by the journal of Kristjan's father, David Burton has dramatised a powerful story of love, loss, and sadness, with touching humour.

In a music studio in surburban Brisbane four men gather in an attempt to build upon a surprisingly successful first album. Newly clean, front man Gareth is losing his cool. Lead guitarist Chimney has got cold feet. Bass player Michael is keeping secrets and Sumo, the drummer, has vanished. Meet Hedonism. Hedonism have rocketed from pub gigs to support acts, international tours and brand management. It's a whole new world. They've been given a license to drink, be rockstars and live, well, hedonistically. They've been given permission to never grow up, as long as they record their second album. St Mary's In Exile
2008 Brisbane. The hierarchy of the Church had concerns about Father Peter Kennedy. They doubted his faith. They disliked the statue of the Buddha he had in the church, the fact he let women preach and had blessed same sex couples. Because he would not repent he was excommunicated. On a dark and stormy night Peter had packed. He left and locked the church and then with the entire congregation marched down the street to the Trades and Labour council building where they set up their own church. It is still going today
