Craig Calman has been creating movies and writing screenplays since the age of 12. During high school he wrote, directed and edited a number of 8mm and Super 8mm films, one of which, "The Canyon," received Honorable Mention in the Kodak Teenage Movie Awards. He also wrote and produced a 40 minute documentary filmed in Mexico. Craig graduated from the UCLA Motion Picture/Television Department. Realizing that great movies must start with great scripts, he embarked on a career in the theatre to learn first hand the secrets of dramatic writing. He was invited to joined Ralph Waite's Los Angeles Actors Theatre Playwrights Workshop and then became an actor for the National Shakespeare Festival in San Diego, winning acclaim and a Best Actor award. This launched him on a career as a professional stage actor, and he performed primarily for classical repertory companies throughout the U.S., including a highly successful season with the Boston Shakespeare Company. For the next seven years Craig concentrated on writing and while living in New York City he continued to act, as well as direct plays and video projects. Mr. Calman returned to Los Angeles where he has worked in an administrative capacity for the major motion picture studios and top entertainment law firms. He was also an assistant to legendary pioneer film producer Hal Roach. From 2000 to 2005 he was a member of the Playwright/Director Unit of the Actors Studio West, headed by director Mark Rydell and Academy Award winning actor Martin Landau. Since 2005 Mr. Calman has been a script analyst for the Beverly Hills Theatre Guild. Craig Calman is listed in Who's Who In The West, Who's Who in America and Who's Who in the World. His book 100 Years of Brodies with Hal Roach was published in April 2014 by BearManor Media and he has been contracted to write a second Hal Roach-themed book by BearManor.
