Ontario-based playwright Marilyn Anne Campbell has had plays produced or given staged readings in Toronto, Calgary, and Winnipeg. She has a degree in Fine Arts Cultural Studies from York University in Toronto, and has received playwriting grants from both the Toronto Arts Council and the Ontario Arts Council. She is a member of Theatre Ontario and a friend of the Canadian Society of Children's Authors, Illustrators, and Performers (CANSCAIP). Marilyn also writes fiction, screenplays, and non-fiction, and is a volunteer puppeteer with The Concerned Kids in Toronto. All the Light-Hearted Souls
Synopsis:
After an unfortunate encounter with some woodworking machinery, Alex finds himself challenged to justify his detached and carefree ways to a Gatekeeper who exists on the threshold between life and death.
Notes:
This play was written especially for 8-0-8 Productions first collaborative show, "nigh". Six scenes by six different writers each depicted an encounter between the recently deceased and the Gatekeeper.

Flood Control
Synopsis:
On the eve of his fortieth birthday, lonely Ray stands on a bridge over a swollen river, building up the nerve to end his life. He's interrupted by Gina, a highly-organized woman who's come to kill herself simoly because she has nothing else left on her list of things to do.
Notes:
The first draft of Flood Control was written for Pat the Dog Playwright Centre's 24-Hour Playwriting Contest in 2011, which gave participants three prompt words to write from - shift, perpendicular, and water.

Lifeline
Synopsis:
Tess, a high school student craving internet fame, enlists Keith, a near-luddite classmate, to illustrate her self-published e-zine. When desperate and disturbing messages begin arriving from a young fan on the other side of the country, the two clash over their responsibilities to someone they'll never meet.

The first draft of Lifeline was supported through a grant by the Ontario Arts Council and an excerpt was read during Theatre Direct Canada's Seedlings Festival in June 2007.

Safe as Housewares
Synopsis:
Longing for a hermit's lifestyle, temp-worker Lance surrounded his home with a solid wall of hedge, but he's about to learn that no amount of foliage will stop a bride-in-crisis on her wedding day.
Notes:
This play was developed as part of Lunchbox Theatre's Petro-Canada Stage One play development series and received two staged readings in Calgary during April 2007.
