And the Curtain Rises

Synopsis:
and the Curtain Rises loosely re-imagines the theatrical bedlam surrounding the creation of the first American musical. Set in 1866, this classic backstage tale follows novice producer William Wheatley as he finds his production in shambles: bruised egos, secret plots, romance, some skimpy costumes, an uncompromising author, and a cast on the verge of revolt. all is complicated when a French ballet troupe is forced to seek refuge in his theatre after a fire erupts in an adjacent theatre. Rather than throw in the towel and count his losses, Wheatley decides to take control and turn lemons into lemonade. Filled with outrageous characters and rich melodies, and reveling in the chaos and camaraderie of the theatre, and the Curtain Rises is a lovely valentine to an unique American art form

Awakening

Synopsis:
Inspired by Kate Chopin's novel, the awakening. the play is about a desire for an eternal existence. Chopin appears as a character and watches her novel on stage as she writes it, lives in 1899 as well as ceaselessly, and is almost interchangeable with her own heroin, edna. She exists to live and die her own life, which had already happened in real time, but also to live edna's, as time rewinds and fast-forwards in fictional time. Throughout the play, the novel is both in the process of being written and already completed.

Broken Morning: Stories From the Death Row Factory

Synopsis:
Broken Morning is a fictional play based on interviews with men on death row at the Huntsville prison; a woman on death row in the Gatesville prison, TX. the play takes place in the sewing factory at the ellis One Unit of the prison where men awaiting execution go to work every weekday. Interwoven with their stories of violence, poverty and demons are the stories of people who surround the business of death row and the sorrow and hopes of the victims' families.

Splendora

Synopsis:
the favorite pastime in Splendora, a small east Texas town, is gossip. People were still talking about outcast Timothy John Coldridge-who ran away fifteen years ago and was never heard from again-until Miss Jessica Gatewood came to town. the exotic and beautiful Miss Jessie, a lady of Victorian bearing and lofty literary ideals, was hired to run the county bookmobile. as if she wasn't enough to talk about on her own, she moved into the very house in which Timothy John once lived with his grandmother. Miss Jessie's refined ways and charismatic civic pride captivates the entire town, particularly Brother Leggett, but leaves Sue Ella Lightfoot slightly suspicious.
