Alison Campbell Rate has a strong interest in the memoir genre. Apart from assisting private clients to complete their life-stories, she recently ghost wrote the memoirs of Australian singer Diana Trask, published by Melbourne Books in May 2010. It is from this interest in the power of personal storytelling that the play The Peppercorn Tree arose.

        Peppercorn Tree, The

Peppercorn Tree, The

Synopsis:
The Peppercorn Tree is a story of mateship, love, regret and reconciliation. In Tobruk during World War II during an early morning air raid, Jonah Cloake made a split-second decision. The fallout took root and grew to overshadow his life and future relationships, especially with his wife and only son. Burying his guilt under a veneer of jibes and humour, Jonah succeeded in avoiding his past for decades. Now, as he nears the end of life, the aging Jonah reluctantly agrees to record his memoirs with a biographer and in the process is forced to confront his demons. By turns humorous and deeply moving, The Peppercorn Tree is a story of the healing power of reconciliation with oneself and others.
