        Pearl, The         Performing Research

Pearl, The

Synopsis:
The Pearl tells the story of Kino, a Mexican pearl diver whose life is transformed when he finds a pearl as 'perfect as the moon'. Kino believes that the pearl will make his dreams reality, he will marry Juana in the church and their son Coyotito will be educated. Obsessed by this dream, Kino is blind to the greed and fear the pearl arouses in his neighbours, and ultimately himself. Soon the dream of wealth and riches turns to dust when the pearl attracts only enemies, misfortune and grief. Cap-a-Pie's wonderful adaptation of Steinbeck's classic novel is inspired by two recent research trips to Burkina Faso. From this wealth of extraordinary experience and new African friendship, Cap-a-Pie have a gentle story to tell, a window into another culture and a different way of life, but one that has important lessons for us all. Incorporating the work of African musicians, The Pearl also boasts a fantastic original soundtrack. The Pearl is brought to life by a professional cast using an engaging and animated storytelling style that will capture the imagination of all...but especially young people aged 8-12.
