James Cawood was born in Newcastle upon Tyne, educated in Scotland and trained as an actor at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School. As an actor he toured extensively around the UK with various productions including; JB Priestley's Dangerous Corner, the classic British farce Sailor, Beware, Dennis Potter's Blue Remembered Hills and the PG Wodehouse comedy Come On, Jeeves. For Vienna's English Theatre he has appeared in Charley's Aunt in 2008, Out of Order in 2009 and The Importance of Being Earnest in 2010. As a writer James' first play The Jeffersons received a rehearsed reading at the Bristol Old Vic Studio and his second play Echoes of the Grain was shortlisted for the International Playwriting Festival Award. His short play Unrequited was performed at the Old Red Lion Theatre, London. He is a huge fan of Alfred Hitchcock and classic 70's horror movies and no doubt it was this combination that inspired him to write Stone Cold Murder. It was whilst he was performing in Vienna, trying to save money and stay indoors that he spent the days writing the play, so it is perfect that it should be performed for the first time in the same city. He is delighted and honoured that his play is receiving its world premiere in Vienna, a city and a theatre very close to his heart.

Death Knell
Set in an isolated former hunting lodge in the Scottish Highlands, Death Knell follows Henry Roth, a famous playwright and his wife Evelyn, as they await the arrival of his new 'muse' - a charming and charismatic young actor called Jack Willoughby who is determined to secure a role in the playwright's latest production. What starts out as a seemingly innocent audition soon leads to an evening full of twists, turns and eventually . . . murder. Mixing black comedy and shocks of the highest order, Death Knell reinvents the classic thriller genre and will leave audiences breathless and beguiled right up to the final curtain.

Stone Cold Murder
Newlyweds Robert and Olivia Chappell have bought a small hotel in the English Lake District, and at the end of their first season they settle down with a drink in front of a warm fire. But their evening is interrupted by the arrival of a rugged hiker seeking shelter from the snow storm outside. Unlike her husband, Olivia senses danger. Could the stranger have anything to do with her own dark past involving a stolen diamond and a dangerous ex-boyfriend looking for revenge? Another male visitor soon appears and Olivia's worst nightmare comes true. A desperate fight for survival begins, shedding a very different light on all those involved while ratcheting up the suspense until the very end.
