Marvin Chernoff is a native New Yorker who was born in Brooklyn, but grew up in upstate Glens Falls, New York. He has been a professor of counseling and educational psychology at Indiana University and California State University at Northridge, as well as a psychotherapist in private practice. His B.A. is from the State University of New York at albany, his M.A. is from the State University of Iowa, his Ph.D. is from Case-Western Reserve University, and he took a four-year postdoctoral in adlerian Psychotherapy in Chicago. He is a published and produced playwright. the New York Times review of his Off Broadway play CHaIM's LOVe SONG, called the play a "rich affecting Drama," that "balances wit and grave wisdom gracefully," and is "a funny, philosophical, lovely evening." It ran for over 200 performances, has been produced many times, and is published by Samuel French Other Chernoff plays have been produced at such L.A. Theaters as: the Company of angels, the West Coast Jewish Theater, the Matrix Theater, the Grace Players, the American Renegade Theater, the actor's art Theater, the Group Repertory Theater, and the StElla adler Theater. He is a member of the association of Los Angeles Playwrights, First Stage of La (where all of his plays have been developed,) the association of Jewish Theaters, and the Dramatist's Guild of America. He lives in California with his psychotherapist wife, Dr. Sharon Bloom. Between them, they have four terrific children and three absolutely perfect grand-daughters.
