Ambition Facing West
Smart, funny, provocative, a bit elliptical. . . Anthony Clarvoe's account of the immigration experience, with a heavy shading of his own family's story of leaving Croatia, is an admirable new American play. . . .aMBITION FaCING WeST is the story of three generations of Croatians and their determination to better themselves by facing constantly west. This gives the play a nicely circular construction both in space and time. Not only are the characters constantly on the move, but Clarvoe. . .gracefully maneuver[s] the characters back and forth in time. Most of the actors play two parts, usually two generations apart, which is another intriguing touch. . ..

Art Of Sacrifice, The
an American chess master returns home for a defining emotional match with his challenging and unpredictable father, who years ago coached him to success. a taut, true and ultimately forgiving play about the negotiations we all make as parents and children, this intricate Drama beautifully delineates the complexity that exists within the strict boundaries of a chessboard or a family.

Gunpowder Joe
Hounded out of his native England, Joseph Priestley hoped to secure a sanctuary along the banks of the Susquehanna. Would this refugee find America, that great experiment, to be the true democracy he had championed from across the sea? Would he finally be free to pursue his religion, his science, and his political beliefs in this new land of liberty? Controversy continued to swirl around him. Revolutionary comrades turned into bitter political opponents when it came time to actually govern the country they founded. The immigrant Priestley was drawn into the vortex of Americas first major crisis. Freedom of Speech had yet to be tested, and Priestleys admirers John Adams and Thomas Jefferson were engaged in a deeply polarized debate over the fate of our fledgling nation.

Our Practical Heaven
Synopsis:
Three generations of family gather over three holidays in a home none of them expects to long survive the rising sea. they do chores, text each other, and dance. they watch the birds and watch each other, while struggling for loyalty, legacy, and turf. By the end, everything has shifted and a new generation is in charge, but of what? Our Practical Heaven, the third Aurora mainstage production to develop from our annual Global Age Project, addresses the changing tides of communication, gender roles, and society in a place where even the notions of home and family remain fluid. GAP director Allen McKelvey, and original GAP cast members Julia Brothers* (the First Grade), Joy Carlin* (therese Raquin), and Anne Darragh* (A Delicate Balance), reprise their roles for Aurora's main stage production.
