Carl Clay has been a significant force in the theatre and independent film movement in the U.S. for almost two decades, during which times his creative use of theatre, film, video and music have resulted in numerous awards. As Founder/Executive Producer of Black Spectrum Theatre, he has produced over 100 theatrical productions that have been performed in New York City & throughout the United States. His motion pictures and videos have been screened at various national and international TV and film festivals. Often referred to as a multi-talented creative force, Carl Clay has produced a total of 17 short and feature length films, several of which are included in the video library. In acknowledgement of his social marketing skills, he was awarded the 1999 Community Enterprise Award for Community Spirit by the City of New York. As the Founder/CEO of Black Spectrum Theatre, He has produced over 350 plays, trained over 3000 actors and written and directed 20 films and 14 plays. His feature length film Let's Get Bizze is available on Netflix and Amazon.com. He's produced over 40 jazz concerts with such artist as Roy Ayers, Paul Mooney, Roberta Flack, Norman Connors. To his credit, he helped launched the careers of such notable actors as Carlease Burke,(NBC) Crowded, Lisa Carson (Ally McBeal Show) in her first feature film, Desiree Coleman (Mama I Want To Sing), David Baptist (WB Network) and Byron Mims (Fences on Broadway). He's been awarded an AUDELCO AWARD for Producer of the Year for the theatre production Deadwood Dick Legend of the West and the play Kingfish,amos and Andy and the Healing Zone. He's received an ASCAP music Lyricist award for his songs in the motion picture Coffey and 1st place lyricist award in the annual Women's Media for the ABC-TV special Turkey Treasure. He's also received a National Library Association award for his groundbreaking film Babies Making Babies and an International Film, and TV Festival Bronze Metal Award for The Follower and Clear Vision, two films about male responsibility in teen pregnancy. He is the author of a new book, Poor-ducing Theatre and Film at Black Spectrum Theatre, the book features a foreward by Ruby Dee, Woodie King, Melvin Van Peebles. His film Urban Encounters (What to do if you get stopped by the police) and Justice is Done were given National Black Programming PBS awards for outstanding youth programming. He has been the recipient of numerous city, state and civic citations for outstanding professional achievement. He has served as volunteer for the National March of Dimes, The Center to Prevent Handgun Violence, The New York City Teen Pregnancy Task Force, Operation Read Aloud and The American Health Foundation. He's a member of the Los Angeles IATSE Union, a Prince Hall Mason, a Board Member of the Madam C. J. Walker Organization, and the new Dutch Reform Church Performing Arts Center.

Black Love
Synopsis:
an experimental musical Drama/ comedy developed in 1970 based on an idea by Carl Clay and developed collaboratively by the Black Spectrum theatre Co.
