David Copelin is a playwright and Dramaturg who has worked extensively in the professional Theatres of both Canada and the United States. He is a graduate of Yale Drama School. David's play BElla Donna (Toronto: Playwrights Canada Press, 2006) won the New Play award at the 2005 Toronto Fringe Festival; the play returns for a longer run in Toronto in May 2008. Now translating Carl Sternheim's Burger Schippel, David teaches scriptwriting privately and at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario. He is an active member of the Playwrights Guild of Canada, Literary Managers and Dramaturgs of the Americas, and the Dramatists Guild of America.

Bella Donna

Bella Donna
Passion, poison, and the fear of forever collide in this dark comedy, winner of the 2005 Toronto Fringe Festival's New Play award. In Renaissance Italy, when the infamous Borgia family loses its power, their enemies seek revenge - but you can't break the law of unintended consequences. these people don't sin small. BElla Donna, which also won a Best Stage Play award from the Moondance International Film Festival in 2004, is the first production of Some Strange Reason, a Toronto company founded by playwright David Copelin. Some Strange Reason's next project will be David's new and even darker comedy, the Rabbi of Ragged ass Road, which Dramatizes a clash of spiritualities in the one-of-a-kind world of Yellowknife, Northwest Territories.
