A native Manhattanite, Leslie Corn was six years old when, from the boost of her father's lap, she sat mesmerized at a performance of PETER PAN, her first Broadway play. She has been fascinated by the theater ever since. Leslie journeyed into playwriting late, after working in television, educational film, network radio, and audio books, as a producer, director, casting director, researcher, programmer, writer, abridger, occasional on-air talent, and all-around coffee fetcher. Three of her books on tape received Grammy Award nominations for Best Spoken Word and Best Comedy recordings. A forensic certified genealogist, Leslie was elected In 2003 as the youngest Fellow of the New York Genealogical and Biographical Society. She works on the BBC genealogical series Who Do You Think You Are?. With the imagined meeting of three historical giants in THE GREENHOUSE, Leslie joined genealogical research with dramatic fiction. She was captivated by the journey, victories, and values of the magnificent and undersung Eliza Simmons Bryant. Leslie has a B.A. In English and an M.A. in Psychology. She is a member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences and the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. She has served as a judge for Writopia Lab's Worldwide Plays Festival. She counts among her writing influences the works of Paula Vogel, Robert B. Parker, Judd Apatow, Dylan Thomas, David Ives, Sarah Ruhl, Carl Jung, Peter Shaffer, William Shakespeare, Sylvia Kaye, Julian Fellowes, and every season of Mad Men. Leslie is grateful to Eliza Bryant Village in Cleveland for access to their archives, to the Wayne County Public Library in North Carolina for research assistance, to Tessa LaNeve and Sarah Matteucci of Primary Stages' Einstein School for the Performing Arts for selecting THE GREENHOUSE for performance in their Detention series, and to Roger Joslyn, her life partner and best friend, for his insight, inspiration, and love.
