Russ Cowan was born in Salem, Oregon, in 1962. after college, he began a career in Theatre which encompassed acting, directing and writing. He is the recipient of the Vancouver (Wa) Arts Council's Peekema award, and a three-time recipient of the Oregon Theatreical awards Society's OTaS award. a Founding member of the Portland, Oregon chapter of the Lehman engel Musical Theatre Writing Workshop, his works include the original comic revue Nothing Is Sacred! (co-author & lyrics, 1982), book and lyrics for the musicals Zorro the Fox (with Pete Roth, 1989), Going to Pot: the Reefer Madness Musical (with Jeffrey Kauffman, 1999), book, music and lyrics for House of the Seven Gables (2005), and most recently, the book and lyrics for Madder Music & Stronger Wine (with arthur S. Sullivan, 2008). He is currently working on a musical version of the Wind in the Willows with composer Kurt Misar.
