Public Welfare, The

Synopsis:
The inspiration for this play lies in the author's experience. When his mother was suffering the final stages of terminal cancer, he read a short item in the newspaper about a young man who had "confounded" his doctors with a sudden remission from that disease. The young man's spontaneous remission from the edge of the cancer abyss is at the core of this play.

Stats

Synopsis:
This is an intense and powerful confrontation drama set in the volatile world of professional football. It deals with the concepts of winning and losing, not only on the gridiron but also in life. The play's central character, a pro-ball quarterback, finds himself, on the eve of his wedding, confronted by a sportswriter who probes for the real reasons for the quarterback's having been placed on waivers. His stats say the athlete is a "winner," yet, suddenly and inexplicably, he has lost his starting position with his team.
