Beowulf: A Thousand Years Of Baggage
Synopsis:
Some would say the old world character of Beowulf is a rugged warrior fighting for survival. Others would argue that he is fighting for the destruction of society. Is the great story a structurally pagan tale with Christian overtones or a Christian tale inspired by the book of Genesis? With so many contrary ideas, the only reasonable plan is to create a new version of Beowulf, one where each narrator battles to tell the story from their own perspective. Shotgun Players and Banana Bag & Bodice have gotten down to work inspecting this classic poem-adapting its powerful narrative to make a new play that is part homage and part parody. Beowulf: a Thousand Years of Baggage combines Weillian cabaret, '40s jazz harmony, indie rock, electroinica, and Romantic lieder into a new musical voice, allowing the original epic poem and the language of modern musical theater a uniquely outrageous platform on which to unite

Oh What War
Synopsis:
a fantasy of flagrant disobedience to authority, Oh What War is underground entertainment performed by a band of deserters stuck in No Man's Land. Their scavenged video battlefield, is a mashup of mud, noise, history, and song that zeros in on the great war machine that holds us captive. With Oh What War, director Mallory Catlett counters the current wave of documentary theater that takes up war as subject matter. Her inspiration, as the title suggests, is Joan Littlewood's seminal work Oh, What a Lovely War-a production that used popular song, clowning, and visual projection to chronicle the folly and atrocity of WWI. although radically re-imagined, Catlett remarks, 'The production shares an episodic structure, an interdisciplinary form and many of the original WWI songs. It also maintains a clear connection to the originators intent-to expose the inherent contradiction in war between sensory experience and mythic representation. By focusing on the sensory experience of the individual, the absurdity of war is unleashed. With characters drawn from WWI legend Oh What War uses history as the basis for a total fiction and style of play that celebrates irreverence in the face of calamity. In this way, Oh What War is an appeal to the irrational, that more vital resistant spirit so crucial to combatting the resignation of war-weary world'

Space//Space
Synopsis:
In SPaCE//SPaCE two brothers volunteer for a scientific experiment and then are placed in a small vessel and launched into space in the hopes that their future discovery will inform sentient beings of the human race. This ridiculous experiment - putting living beings inside a device designed for longevity beyond human durability - provides the ultimate setting for comedic futility and existential tragedy. One brother follows his natural course of degeneration while the other mysteriously transmogrifies into a female, allowing the two brothers to ponder an uncomfortable future generation to occupy the capsule. SPaCE//SPaCE explores the value of earthly dogma and social morality when earth is a distant blip and society is reduced to two.
