Barry Creyton is well known to Australian theatre and television audiences. His early popularity emerged from his Sydney stage appearances and his starring in the legendary TV series THE MAVIS BRAMSTON SHOW for which he also wrote material and composed music - and later, THE BARRY CREYTON SHOW. In England, he appeared in many TV series, and played in comedy, dramatic roles and revue in London's West End (including DON's PARTY and ABELARD AND HELOISE) and his play, FOLLOW THAT HUSBAND was produced by Ray Cooney. He was a frequent broadcaster for the BBC. Back in Australia, Barry starred in THE NAKED VICAR SHOW and then for ten years alternated between TV, film and stage appearances and as lead writer on CARSON's LAW and writing comedy material for THE MIKE WALSH SHOW. His play DOUBLE ACT, starring Barry and Noeline Brown, opened at the Ensemble in 1987 to box office and critical acclaim. Since then, DOUBLE ACT has been produced in more than twenty languages, with major world stars. In 1987, he directed the smash-hit musical NUNSENSE and the following year Barry was honoured with the Norman Kessel Memorial Award for his contributions to Australian theatre as an actor, playwright and director. For the past nineteen years, in the United States, he has written movies-of-the-week for TV and his revue SECRETS EVERY SMART TRAVELER SHOULD KNOW played for two and a half years in New York. In 1996 Barry starred in the QTC's successful production of BLITHE SPIRIT and in 1998 he directed and starred in his own play VALENTINE's DAY, which has since been produced in several languages and then, again for Marian Street Theatre in his comedy LATER THAN SPRING. His novels, THE DOGS OF POMPEII and NERO GOES TO ROME co-written with Vaughan Edwards, are published by Random House and he has appeared in the Ensemble's productions of GLORIOUS and DUETS.
