Dick Curran started writing for the stage when he moved back to Newcastle in 2000, after living in London, Brighton, Hull and Manchester. He was a student in Manchester in 1980's and he stayed on for a year living in a bedsit in Stretford, driving a delivery van and working on the Great Geordie Novel - sadly still unpublished. To back up his understanding of Theatre he has been involved in semi-professional and amateur productions in a wide range of capacities from acting to directing and set building. Last year he had a number of pieces given rehearsed readings at Live Theatre in Newcastle, culminating in Venice on Tyne as part of the Live Theatre/RSC co-production, Tyneside Stories. He was commissioned to write a monologue for Paines Plough's Come to Where I'm From tour, and his play, therapy, will receive its first professional production at Live Theatre in October. He has had full-scale professional productions of plays at the Customs House in South Shields and the Octagon, Yeovil, and many other pieces have been produced at venues ranging from pubs to medieval castles (well, one). awards won include the Drama association of Wales Short Play, and the Yeovil Octagon. therapy was runner-up for the BBC Radio Alfred Bradley in 2005 and his novel, almost Persuaded, is being republished by Red Squirrel Press later in 2010.
