Beyond the Breakers

Synopsis:
The election of a lifeboat coxswain by his crew may only occur a few times in a century, but besides questioning seamanship, judgment and courage, it often pitches brother against brother or father against son. What other emergency service has to contend with forces as unpredictable as the sea or as unruthless as the family? Beyond the Breakers is based on the real life experiences and words of the lifeboat crews in North Norfolk across the years.

Bone Harvest

Bone Harvest is a story of love among the corn shocks, of the legend of the horseman's frog's bone, and of a family through the last century. It is a story that ranges from the quiet of the stable to the horrors of the trenches in Flanders, from the sweep of the Canadian prairies to the nooks of a Suffolk cornfield, and from an old lady's 100th birthday to the first knowledge of the secret she has harboured for eighty years.

Brontes of Dunwich Heath, The . . . and Cliff

Synopsis:
You know about the talented literary Bronte sisters of North Yorkshire right? Well, meet their lesser-known southern cousins from Suffolk Mad Cath and Plain Jane familiar names but with a totes different attitude. Prepare for love, laughs, a total ledge of a leading man, confusion, a rapidly crumbling coastline and a whole lot of wacky wuthering! In true Eastern Angles style, there will be live music and songs (from Parkway Dreams composer extraordinaire Simon Egerton), multiple character changes, crazily ingenious staging and lots of laughs in this latest production. Expect a general air of anarchy and much mayhem in this mondo bizarro alternative to the traditional Christmas panto.

On the Home Front

On the Home Front
the period 1939-45 saw the east of england bracing itself against the threat of invasion and transforming itself to meet the demands of a nation at war. as everyone became swept up in the preparations many found themselves in fresh occupations or strange parts of the country. It was a time for new friends, new responsibilities and new experiences. above all it was a time for music: from singing in the shelter to whistling in the dark; from dance bands in the local hall to Workers Playtime. ON the HOMe FRONT clocks up over 100 performances, and it becomes our most successful show so far. It also gives us our first review in the Guardian.

Private Resistance

Synopsis:
An emotional wartime drama focusing on the lives of one East Anglian Family. The play is an intriguing ?what-if' scenario exploring how Britain would have coped with an enemy invasion. It's summer 1940. Britain is at war with Germany and the on-going conflict has thrown Diane Bowles's life into turmoil. With her husband behind bars in a POW camp, Diane is left in charge of her teenage nephew Wilf, a keen boy scout eager to get one over on ?Jerry'. Out in the fields Diane's brother-in-law has more ambitious ideas. His plan? To build a secret underground bunker manned by a small unit of men ready to wage guerrilla warfare in the event of enemy invasion. His first port of call. . . Frank Evans, a gamekeeper with an encyclopaedic knowledge of the local landscape. When 19-year-old Prue, a recent recruit to the Auxiliary Territorial Service comes looking for lodgings, Diane welcomes the spirited young woman into her home. Soon the five villagers find themselves dealing with events and emotions they never thought they would have to face. . .

Reapers Year, The

Reapers Year, The
the ReaPeRS YeaR celebrates the harvest and recreating the characters and customs of a bygone world - all drawn from the accounts of the men and women that did the work. But behind the rural mask lies another story: the long and painful struggle of the farmworker to improve his condition and take his place in the modern world. and 100 years ago this autumn the agricultural labourer won the right to vote, so it's time for a double celebration at the village 'frolic', 'horkey' or 'supper' - call it what you will - just come along and join in the fun.
