Bryan Darby has been associated with the amateur Theatre since his early teens and during his five years in the RaF in the 1950s. a career in electronics and a five-year break with the stage followed. then, moving from London to Kent, he returned to the stage and met his wife, ann. Before long, he was working the clubs and holiday camps around Kent and Sussex as a semi-pro entertainer. Much of his poetry was broadcast on national radio during the '70s and '80s. the first of his many short stories were published in the evening News (sadly now defunct). Later, for about a decade, he taught the craft of fiction writing at local adult education Centres. His full-time electronics career eventually lead to technical journalism, becoming Deputy editor on two national trade journals. Since his retirement in December 1999, he has continued with both his writing and his association with the amateur stage. an avid Theatregoer with a preference for plays, he decided to turn his published short stories into full-length stage plays - in one instance, leaving only a telephone number and a three-word phrase as an homage to the original 1600-word story.

Something To Hide

Something To Hide
We all know that feeling when something is just not right. avis had that feeling. What's more, when she raised the subject with Phyllida, the Manager of the charity shop where she works, it appeared that she was not alone in that feeling. Of course, it wasn't just a matter of class. Or, perhaps it was. . . That is. . . it was until the police became involved and certain evidence seemed to. . . Well, somehow, sitting down with a nice cup of earl Grey would never be the same again. But then, we all have something to hide. Don't we?

Three-Quarter Moon

Three-Quarter Moon
Laura is preparing a family dinner when her friend, Helen, drops in. While she and Helen are chatting, Laura's husband, Paul, rings to say that he will not be home until the next day. Laura reacts angrily and, due to a mysterious gift, unwittingly places a curse on him. In her disappointment, Laura lets slip to Helen that she has had doubts about Paul's fidelity, and that she is sure that there was a woman in the car with him. Unexpectedly, Paul returns home, badly injured, having been involved in a serious car accident. He refuses to go to hospital so Helen, who is a nurse, treats his injuries. When she has left, Paul tells Laura that her suspicions were right. He was having an affair and he had been leaving with the other woman when the accident occurred. a fight ensues, leaving Laura at Paul's mercy. Helen returns to find Laura unconscious and badly beaten yet unwilling to cancel the evening. Following the arrival of her dinner guests-her brother, Robert, and his wife, Jane-Laura's suspicions as to the identity of the other woman are dispelled and she insists that the subject is not discussed during the meal despite the discovery of traces of blood and the disappearance of a knife. the meal finally over, the evening descends, amid much speculation, into deepening mystery until, eventually, the police arrive and the identity of the other woman is finally revealed.
