Marla has been writing plays since 1975 and The Environmentalists is her first full blown comedy and first ten minute play. She has directed over sixty plays and musicals, authored 9 full length plays, and has worked with playwrights to bring their work to the stage through much of her life. She is a professor of Theatre, Creative Writing and the Humanities. Her first novel, SIMPLE MACHINES, was published in August. Her full length version of The Environmentalists will be published this Spring. Her plays have been awarded as well as her directing. Dr. Dean received her Ph.D. in Theatre History and Criticism from LSU and her Masters in theatre from the University of Texas.
