Jo Derbyshire was due to study art and History at University but dropped out and got involved in the fringe Theatre and poetry scene in Liverpool and Manchester in the early 1990's . Derbyshire eventually went back to university to study Politics, History and Fine art and is best described as both a visual artist, performer and writer. Current work can be described as psychogeography which embraces both performance and visual art 'When the City Speaks: Seasons' - an organic piece conceived and directed by Debyshire, has evolved to include performances in both Liverpool and London .

When the City Speaks: Seasons

Synopsis:
Conceived, directed and performed by Derbyshire 'seasons' opens with a Narrator, seated on a chair who commences reading a text written about experiences of a city, combined with historical and popular culture references. Moments later Derbyshire enters carrying art materials, which are spread across the floor. the Narrator states a seasons and Derbyshire returns with a pre prepared canvas representative of a season. these canvases are a combination of mixed media, painting, Photographs, text with abstract and figurative representations in a collage.
