Carmen

Synopsis:
The Doyle Carmen is updated to the Spanish Civil War, in a period of exhaustion and treachery and needless bloodshed, oddly reminiscent of Shakespeare's Troilus and Cressida. It is not a staging for those who like their Carmens to be flecked with sunshine and sangria and bulifights and all the joys of a Spanish holiday; this is a bitter, dark, sensational reading in which Carmen herself is well into a raddled middle-age, and the whole production is right in your face, high in energy, low in romance. This is a Carmen in angry closeup instead of the usually more gentle longshot.
Sheridan Morley, Spectator

Pig Iron People, The

John Doyle
Australia, 1996. The winds of change begin to blow like a gale through the nation as a new government has taken the reins. 'From now on people will have to make their own way in the world. People will no longer be rewarded for being weak. The madness is over& The people have spoken. This is what they want, this is what we voted for, and if you don't see it like me, then you are out of step. So get used to it.' Nick's out of step; he's a writer. No writer has ever lived in Liberal Street before. and the residents are making sure he knows it. In this timely satire, John Doyle's infectious humour takes an affable, yet sublimely sharp tilt at an Australia we all recognise.

Vere (Faith)

Synopsis:
The Big Bang created a future from nothing. For the esteemed Professor of Physics Vere, the future is nothing. One minute he is trading witty anecdotes with his colleagues and students and about to take up a job with the CERN Laboratory in Switzerland. The next, he receives a shattering diagnosis and learns that everything he knows will all too soon slip away. Just what is faith to different people? To some, its knowing that there is a God. To others, its knowing the architecture of the cosmos. And to Vere, its knowing that, at the end of it all, his wife Holly is out there waiting for him. Somewhere.

Each play listing contains a playwright biography, synopsis, cast size, creative and production team for the premiere production, date and location of the first performance and much more.doollee.com not only defines the World's theatrical repertoire for the first time but also aims to revitalise that repertoire by reintroducing many lost scripts and providing a gateway for locating and clearing rights for a very large number existing scripts. We are delighted to receive information from users where our own research has been unable to locate details on the holder of a play's rights.doollee.com contains a comprehensive listing for each new play written in English produced by professional theatre companies, venues, festivals, commercial producers and once-off-producers from 1956 to the present. It includes adaptations, translations and new versions.
