In the late sixties, he helped found York Arts Centre as venue for fringe theatre and directs a touring group, York Shoestring Theatre. a play which sandwiches a Caliban's view of "The Tempest" between episodes of colonial-style master and servant and a present-day kidnapping, providing a drastically telescoped history of Prosperos and Calibans across the centuries.
