Liz Livington and her daughter Beth arrive in Monaco for the wedding of Prince Rainier and Grace Kelly. they are barred from attending as their names are not on the guest list. Liz determines that she will find a better husband for her daughter than the on Grace Kelly found. She is impressed with the Duke of Grenada who is staying at her hotel. the Duke is in financial difficulties - Liz tells him that if she pays all his bills and if he relocates to Philadelphia with his string of racehorses he can marry Beth. He agrees. However, Beth has fallen for Liz's attorney Sandy. Once back in America rather than marry the Duke Beth elopes with Sandy. the Duke agrees to marry Liz - he is only interested in her money - but she knows that
