Heather

Heather
A reclusive children's writer becomes wildly successful. Her books are treasured across the country. But when a troubling narrative starts to unfold, we find ourselves asking: What matters more, the storyteller or the story? I'm Not Here Right Now

I'm Not Here Right Now
A silent duet with the outside world. Inspired by Laurie Anderson's song O Superman, a woman listens to recorded messages on her answerphone. Relationships and global events reveal themselves in a poetic, poignant depiction of a life. An exploration of separation, isolation and connectedness through technology.

Notes:
Part of the Royal Exchange Theatre Hodgkiss Award which is the only scheme of its kind in the north that celebrates the unique collaboration between a writer and director. It offers a theatre maker of outstanding promise the chance to direct a new piece of work - by a writer of their choice - in a production fully supported by the Royal Exchange Theatre, Manchester in 2014. And in its inaugural year, the Award received 108 submissions from directors based the length and breadth of the UK and Ireland! We were overwhelmed with the breadth and scope of ideas and the quality of proposals. It makes us feel incredibly excited about the future of new work in our theatres and the ambition and dedication of directors working in a variety of ways across the UK. It was fascinating to see such a range of ideas and for us to really interrogate how we make work for our audiences at the Royal Exchange Theatre.

L'elisir d'amore

Synopsis:
Set amongst the olive groves of southern Italy, this witty and moving opera tells the story of a love rivalry between Nemorino, a pauper with a passionate heart, and Sergeant Belcore, who is a charming womaniser with a fantastically inflated ego. They vie for the heart of the beautiful, self-assured Adina, who is looking for a grand passion, reflected in her fascination with the story of Tristan and Isolde. Adina is the hottest property in Hollywood - and Nemorino adores her. When a self-confident army officer embarks on a very public flirtation with Adina, Nemorino is in despair, until a smooth-talking movie producer comes to his rescue with a ?love potion' which he promises will win Adina once and for all. Director Valentina Ceschi sets The Elixir of Love at a glamourous 1950s garden party at the height of Hollywood's Golden Age, with a new English libretto by Verity Bargate Award-winner Thomas Eccleshare.

Light Princess, The

Synopsis:
In a kingdom far away, lives an extraordinary princess; a princess strikingly different to any you'll have ever heard of. Strikingly different, in fact, to anyone who has ever lived. Because, you see, she has no gravity. Now you might be thinking, what fun - to fly and float and bound around weightless in the air! But of course, it's not as simple as that. Her windows are forever closed, she can't run free and forever light-hearted; she can never take anything or anyone seriously. Especially not the prince who falls in love with her. . .
