Conceived at the bottom of some pub steps in Wallasey, Neil knew from an early age he was going to make a mark on the world. But when his mother put the globe on a higher shelf and forbade him from using marker pens, he knew it was going to be much more difficult than he thought. He has worked as an actor and occasional chimney sweep-o-gram since the age of five, and has appeared naked in numerous productions both on stage and in various bedrooms. He has accompanied gay men on cruise ships to alaska and the Caribbean, and in the late 90s worked as Sherlock Holmes on Baker Street, where Russian men would ask, for a small fee, if they could put his calabash in their mouths. Neil was an original member of the Liverpool everyman and Playhouse Writers group (LeaP), and for seven years has been a member of Liverpool Playwrights. In 2003 he co-wrote the feature film, Dot.Kill, with Bobby Moresco. Directed by John Irvine, it starred the emmy award winning actor, armand assante. Neil's play Canaveral's Lurch was staged at the Palace Theatre, Manchester, as part of the 2006 24:7 Theatre Festival. It transferred to the Octagon Theatre, Bolton, going on to receive a nomination for Best Fringe Production in the M.e.N. Theatre awards. Last year he appeared in eating Out which also transferred to the Octagon and went on to be nominated for Best New Play in the same awards. His play about the Falklands War, Bullet Shaped Heart (half of which appeared in last year's 24:7 Festival) will tour nationally next spring, directed by Mark McGann.
