There's No Place Like A Home

Synopsis:
Paul Elliott's astonishing valentine to geriatric old troupers. The action is set in Stollberg Hall, a retirement home for theatrical performers near Bognor Regis. They're a happy, disputatious and occasionally forgetful bunch, much given to rhapsodising on the long-distant triumphs of their careers, telling jokes that themselves belong in a retirement home, and belting out The Deadwood Stage as they make their entrance on a Stannah stairlift named after Dame Thora Hird. But this haven of luvviedom, this oasis of old stagers, is under threat. The charity that owns it has gone broke and the handsome house is up for auction. Destitution looms until one of their number, a resourceful dwarf and former con artist, comes up with a cunning plan. Why not kidnap Jeffrey archer, he suggests - Des O'Connor is the first suggestion until everyone realises no one would pay to get him back - and demand a hefty ransom? and, dressed in grotesque masks representing Tony Blair, Margaret Thatcher, Elvis Presley and Prince Charles, the old dears do just that, with his disgraced lordship himself graciously deigning to make his own insufferably perky contribution to the show.
