No Problemo, Amigo
Synopsis:
This is the bilingual world premiere of a comedy written by Jaime Espinal, winner of the Inter American Development Bank's inaugural Hispanic-American Playwriting Competition: "Hispanics in the U.S. but Without Stereotypes" (the best of 170 new plays by authors from 17 different nations). He is a celebrated novelist in Colombia, where his work has won the Premio Nacional de Novela (National Bookwriter award). No Problemo, amigo is his first play. The protagonist, played by Espinal, is an office worker by day, superhero by night, who comes to the U.S. to work for an agency that links foreign exchange students with host families. It is outrageously funny and and irreverant, especially in light of the heated debate about immigration. The play is performed in English, Spanish, and "Spanglish." Supertitles, videos, and projections onstage will help everyone navigate between the languages. There also will be live music performed by Espinal and his band, Los Tres Cerditos (The 3 Little Pigs), direct from Colombia.
