Arnold Fanning's first play Those Powerful Machines ran in the New Theatre as part of the Dublin Fringe Festival 2008. His other plays are Shafted (New Theatre New Writing Week 2009) and Dumped (Red Door Theatre, 2009). His short stories have been published in Ireland and America and broadcast on radio in england. He wrote the screenplay for the short film Still Rain which was shown at the Cork Film Festival. He co-write the script for the one hour TV film Making ends Meet which was broadcast on Irish national broadcaster RTe and also seen in film festivals in Ireland, england, and CanadA. He has been a resident at the Tyrone Guthrie Centre, Co. Monaghan, Ireland, the Virginia Centre for the Creative Arts, usa, and the Edward albee Foundation Residency in Montauk, Long Island, USA as well as a Work-Study Scholar in the Breadloaf Writers' Conference, Vermont, usA. He has participated in writer's workshops in Dublin and Prague, participated in the Sources 2 script development programme in Germany and Norway, and received several grants from the Irish Arts Council.

Shafted
Synopsis:
Jack Malley thinks he has it made. after years of struggle he has written a play that is about to open on Broadway. His past of toil and obscurity is behind him. then one night, during the interval of the preview of his play he steps out onto the New York sidewalk for a cigarette only to be confronted by an unwelcome figure from the past he thought was put behind him. His old friend Henry Thomas, back from years of wandering, has returned. But Henry is here for more than just a chance to reminisce about their shared youth together. He wants a piece of Jack's success, and is prepared to fight for it if he has to, because he feels shafted by Jack.

Those Powerful Machines
Synopsis:
Roddy, an Irishman, lives alone in a suburb of London in the mid 1990s, nursing his wounds and building machines for his own strange purposes. Trace, an english night-club hostess, joins him for a session of Sunday evening bondage. they are rudely interrupted by Clanger, another Irishman, agitated and disheveled, who knows too much about Roddy's past and has a demand that will jolt Roddy out of his amnesiac purgatory and bring him back shockingly into the now.
