Storyville

Synopsis:
Storyville was an actual place, a red-light district within New Orleans, and its story is part of American history. all activity therein was legalized to contain sin in one tidy spot. Councilman Story had the dubious honour of having the sporting area named after him. If Storyville was a place it was also people, - musicians, barmen, croupiers, hookers, madams and the men who frequented the establishments. Storyville was born in 1887 and in 1917, when America declared war on Germany it died with the mass exodus of 20,000 people employed in the area, - the biggest mass exodus in American history. This is the climactic moment at the end of our show and the beginning of the journey of Jazz throughout America. Jazz goes north to Chicago in a tidal wave of music where it combines the black and white brothers like the keys on an old upright.
