Californian Lives         Now We Are Pope: Frederick Rolfe in Venice         Tadzio Speaks . . . Death in Venice Revisited

Californian Lives

Synopsis:
How well do you know those who are closest to you? In these three powerful and moving monologues, Martin Foreman lays bare the lives of three very different Californians. Los Feliz : A salesman in a diner knows the freeways and side streets of Los Angeles like the back of his hand; on one of those side streets he meets the woman of his dreams. Ben and Joe's: In a San Fernando Valley bar a group of older men spend their days shooting the breeze, watching TV and flirting with the bartender. Life is quiet until a young man enters. Sunset: As the sun sets in the Cascade Mountains a grandmother remembers her first date, the man she married and their life together.

Now We Are Pope: Frederick Rolfe in Venice

Synopsis:
Eccentric, cantankerous writer Frederick Rolfe (1860-1913) ended his days in self-imposed exile in Venice, eschewing all friends except handsome young gondoliers. This one-man play finds Rolfe alone in his room, reliving his most famous novel Hadrian VII, in which an Englishman, denied the priesthood for most of his life, is suddenly elected Pope. 'Proved exactly why one-man plays retain their place in the dramatic repertoire: effective characterisation' (Everything-Theatre.co.uk). 'Annus performed with real warmth and humour' **** (WhatsPeenSeen.co.uk). 'Strong performance' (TheGayUK.com).

Tadzio Speaks . . . Death in Venice Revisited

Synopsis:
In Thomas Manns Death in Venice we see von Aschenbach increasingly obsessed by the beautiful youth Tadzio. Although the two never speak, the boy is clearly aware of the older man's attention and a silent relationship grows between them until the writer's final day on the Lido beach. What went through Tadzio's mind when he realised what was happening? Did he welcome or fear the writer's gaze? Decades later Tadzio looks back. 'Eloquent and descriptive prose, here done full justice by Peacock's performance' (ThePublicReviews.com).
